The Lottery

The lottery is a short story by Shirley Jackson written in 1948. I bet you think that this story is about winning a lottery for money. But no, it's not. its about a tradition in a village every June. So the head of the family will choose a paper from the black box kept by Mr. Summers. The lottery is done a lot of times before. it turned out that Hutchinson's family wins the lottery. Bill's wife got the paper with a black dot and she is stoned to death.

Warhorse film summary

Spielberg is a screenwriter, producer and a director. He had directed more than 20 moviews such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, Tin Tin, E.T., etc. In 2011, he directed a great movie called War Horse. It’s a drama, adventure & an action movie. War Horse is a movie based on the famous novel written by Michael Morpugo. The film cast includes Jeremy Irvine as Albert Narracott, Emily Watson as Rose Narracot, Peter Mullen as Ted Narracot and Tom Hiddleston as Captain James Nicholls. This movie was shot in Dartmoor, England

The story begins when Albie’s father, Ted Narracott, win a horse from an auction for 30 guineas. Albert is really excited when he knows his father bought a colt. So he named the colt Joey, but his mother, Rosie, feel disappointed with Ted because they don't have enough money to pay the rent. Lyons came to their house and he was trying to collect the rent money, which is cost 30 guineas. But of only having 15, he promises to pay it at October because he needs time to plant a turnip for earning money.  And Albie trained Joey to plow. Because of feeling hopeless with the terrible storm that destroyed all the crops, Ted takes Joey to the village and sells him to Captain Nicholls. Albert tries to stop the sale, but Captain Nicholls says he will return Joey after the war ends. Will he keep his promise?

The music in this movie is excellent and represents the emotions for each scene. For example, the rolling hills of Dartmoor music is calm and relaxing. This helps the movie to ties well with the music. When ties with the music, you can feel how each scene is meant to be played out. The camera angle in this movie was well done because it shows the scene indirectly, which make it looks good.

I strongly recommended this movie because War Horse is a beautiful movie. This movie is a family film and people of all ages can see this movie. By watching War Horse, we develop an emotional attachment to the characters in the story. This makes the movie enjoyable. We can also see strong Joey that crosses the countryside and the incredible battle.  I found out that this movie is good to be watch.

Reflection - Argumentative Writing & Debates

In the second unit, grade 9 learned about argumentative writing & debates. Argumentative writing is a writing to persuade the reader to agree with our topic. I also learned that we should put several things which are topic sentence, format, counter arguments, thesis statements, APA referencing, intro background and reasons. The assignment that Ms. H gave to us for the Argumentative Writing is to write an essay and we have to choose our topic by our self. My topic was "Small Lockers at School" and I think, I have followed some of the points in the criteria. I put the thesis statement correctly, I citate my resources, I have a clear format, which is Pro-Pro-Con, and I use APA referencing. Although, I still need to improve my skills in citating references and make a better essay to get a better score.

Debate is a formal contest of Argumentation between two teams. In debate, there are Affirmative, Opposition & Rebuttal. I'm the first speaker of the affirmative group. I felt really nervous but I tried to calm my self and speak louder so that my friends and the judges can hear my voice.

Argumentative Essay

Ahmad dhani’s son called Abdul Qodir Jaelani (known as Dul), was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer from Bogor to Jakarta with his friend, Noval Samudra. He hit the road separator and drove opposite direction and hit a Gran Max minivan, which then turn to hit a Toyota Avanza. Dul’s father is the person that should be responsible for his son’s action.

First, Dhani is the one to blame and should be responsible of Dul’s action because he is the father of him. Parents should be taking the consequences and supervise their children because they need someone to lead them. The reason why Dul’s parent should be punished  is that Dul is still 13 and that’s really young. In fact, he may not be mature yet. At that young age, kids need good advice and a leader from adults. Kids in that age probably didn't know what’s good or bad for them, and as a father, he should be a good role model in front of his children.

Second, in that age, kids tend to have a deeper curiosity on what they haven’t tried yet and they will do anything to do those new things like: taking drugs, drinking alcohol, using tobacco and even driving cars. However, it is illegal to drive under 19. Dhani should follow the rule that his son won't be able to drive without s driving license. However,  he still allowed his children to? The parents should have told their children about things that aren’t allowed yet and the best thing to do.

Third, people say that Ahmad Dhani wasn't to blame because he had no intention of hurting these people and could not have predicted the events of follow. However, this should not allow him to be any less to blame. As stated earlier, he allowed his son to drive underage, and this was the outcome. His bad parenting had led to Dul's action, and for that, he should be blamed as much as Dul.

At the end of the problem, his father is the one who should be paying for the damage of the car accident because Dul would not have that much money because he is still a student.
